Mangia Mediterraneo … and more… by MiMi

Mangia Mediterraneo … and more…

I was lucky growing up because we weren’t well off. We didn’t know that. Mom and Dad set high standards for us (excel in school; do your chores; help each other; be resourceful, thrifty, self-disciplined, etc.) and we worked hard to live up to those ideals. We didn’t ‘follow the herd.’ One of Dad’s favorite [...]

White Roof Project – February’s Charity of the Month by MiMi

White Roof Project - February's Charity of the Month

Did you ever sit in full sun wearing black? How soon did you feel like you were being roasted alive? Well, your dark-colored roof is just as effective in soaking up those rays. It’s gets HOT! And dark-colored roofs — many coated with black tar – presently cover 90 percent of buildings in the United [...]

I love this idea. I want to be the first one on my block to have a white roof!

We had a frost last night (in Southern California) and I got to see white roofs. It was so pretty!

Be a Valentine by MiMi

Be a Valentine

How about Being the Valentine you want this year? An eco-friendly Valentine creating smiles and good feelings in others that get passed on and on and on. I’m talking about quietly, consistently spreading willy-nilly-silly joy every place you go and to everyone you see for the next 14 days: the postman and your kids, the [...]

I'm being a Valentine and loving it. What fun! Thanks.

If I won the Clean Spirited Gift Card, I would be sure to indulge in some relaxing bath products. I love soaps, lotions, and shampoos. There is nothing better than treating and pampering yourself now and then. ;)

Resolutions Eco-friendly and Fun! by MiMi

 Resolutions Eco-friendly and Fun!

Happy New Year!

Resolutions that are eco-friendly and fun -

Easy: Turn off the lights when you leave a room; turn off the water while you brush your teeth; make 2013 your  year of “ electrical and water waste awareness.”
Harder: Actually remember to take your own shopping bags into grocery stores… and [...]

I have another suggestion for an eco-friendly resolution....try to actually SHOW in your web store exactly how your products are "eco-friendly". Sorry, but simply having "organic" fibers does not really deserve such a moniker. There are many eco impacts in textile production, "organic" issue aside, not to mention other product lines like watches and jewelry. You do not even provide info on the organic certification, but even with that its quite a stretch I would say to label this stuff "eco-friendly" or "ecoSmart" or whatever other nice gimicky words one may decide to use. what is it made of? How is it made? Where was it made? What reliable info can be provided in full evidence of its "eco friendliness". Prove it.

At CleanSpirited.com, we highlight the products of other brands that are trying to make a difference in the world by introducing recycled materials, salvaged materials ("would-be" waste like end of bolt fabric), sustainable resources, handmade goods, products made within the Americas, Certified Fair Trade products, and more into the equation. We do attempt to list the eco-friendliness of each product in detail on the product page. Ultimately, we support any brand that is helping to level-up their products eco-friendliness in any of the aforementioned ways, despite potential increases in labor costs for US or handmade production, and the higher price of eco-friendly raw materials. To identify what makes each product that we sell eco-friendly, please refer to the rating system on the product page. Clean Spirited rates products on a 5 Point Eco-Scale, giving a point for each: Natural- A portion of product is made from natural, organic, or sustainable materials Recycled - Reclaimed or Recycled materials are used in making of product Local - Product is manufactured in the Americas, reducing transportation emissions Fair Trade - Product is certified Fair Trade, including sustainable farming or production Humanitarian - Extra point for products that support other causes or charities Every product must fall under one of the first four credentials. If a product is also supportive of Humanitarian causes in addition to increased responsibility to the planet, we give it a gold star. We know it’s hard to live a fully impact free life. We all make a dent in the great green earth. Every little bit we can do to help is better for the greater good, including the exposure of eco-friendly raw materials.

R&R in Cooking Pumpkins? by Bea Amore

R&R in Cooking Pumpkins?

I’m a new blogger for Clean Spirited! I love trying out recipes and have been meaning to make MiMi’s Pumpkin Soup recipe since…I don’t know, ages ago. So, while “recycling” this pumpkin, I decided to do some experimenting of my own with the big squash-like orange guy. And mind you, the goal was to use [...]

Love your recipes and pictures! I gotta try the pumpkin skin recipe. Here's my EZ, low-calorie, no crust, no guilt, pumpkin pie recipe: Impossible Pumpkin Pie - Ingredients: 3/4 cup sugar, 1/2 cup buttermilk baking mix, 2T butter, 1 can (13 oz) evaporated milk, 2 eggs, 2 cups pumpkin, 2-1/2 t pumpkin pie spice, 2t vanilla. Beat all ingredients in blender 1 minute or with hand mixer 2 minutes. Bake in preheated 350-degree oven 50 to 55 minutes. Makes 1, 9-inch pie. (Note: it hasstrong vanilla taste; but you can omit the vanilla if you want!)

National Parks Conservation Association – Charity of the Month by MiMi

National Parks Conservation Association - Charity of the Month

National parks: national treasures. Most of us are familiar with Yellowstone National Park and Old Faithful, one of the  geysers that is preserved there.  The geysers  are the main reason the park was established in 1872 as America’s first national park – an idea that spread worldwide.  A mountain wild-land, home to grizzly bears, [...]
